FIND by Mays Mayhew: Lust & Longing in Solo Exhibit at Morpho Gallery
Opening Reception with the Artist Fri., Nov. 4, 6 – 10 p.m.
Morpho Gallery proudly presents new work from artist Mays Mayhew in her solo exhibition FIND, opening Nov. 4. In new paintings Mayhew explores the question: how do we fall in and out of love? Mayhew works in conceptual narration, using the tradition of figurative oil painting to ask questions about contemporary life, and also adding contemporary components such as rhinestones to some of the paintings.
Mayhew’s paintings are thematic in nature. She starts with a concept of some part of the human condition. Then she takes this concept, researchs it, studies the how and why, and then comes out with a list of questions or more questions to ask.
Lately, Mayhew’s work explores reality verses non-reality… what has happened verses what is not now. The dual image reflects memories of the past that could also be hopes for the future.
