Art Chicago, the annual international fair of contemporary and modern art, and NEXT, its more cutting-edge counter part, will be taking place April 29 – May 2, with an Opening Preview on April 28 at the Merchandise Mart, Chicago.

Art Chicago| NEXT Special Exhibition with Shepard Fairey

Creator of the iconic and controversial Barack Obama HOPE campaign poster, contemporary artist Shepard Fairey and his Los Angeles based team will create a special project space in partnership with Art Chicago exhibitor Robert Berman Gallery. His latest street and fine art work will debut in Chicago at exhibition spaces and installations on the 1st and 12th floors of The Merchandise Mart.

Sculpture Projects

As part of the city‐wide celebration of arts and culture, Art Chicago | NEXT has partnered with Chicago Sculpture International (CSI) to present Sculpture Projects, a showcase of large‐scale sculptures displayed in the exterior and interior public spaces of The Merchandise Mart, which began April 2nd. More than 24 sculptures will adorn the Orleans Avenue Drive, including Orleans and Wacker. Approximately eight sculptures will be located along the South Drive of The Mart. Twenty five artists will present works that will highlight the most cutting‐edge in sculpture today, featuring works by: Mike Helbing, Tom Scarff, Leslie Bruning, Jason Verbeek, Evan Lewis, John Aducci, Ruth Migdal, Terry Karpowicz, Mike Young, Ted Garner, Ron Gard, Dusty Folwarczny, Eric Steele, Christine Rojek, John Suave, Eric Stephenson, Barry Tinsley, Nicole Beck, Fisher Stoltz, Bruce Niemi, Suzanne Horwitz, Bob Emser, Guy Bellaver, Michael Brown and Jean Jacques Porret.

CONVERGE: Contemporary Curators Forum

Art Chicago | NEXT’s venue for critical discourse, the Talk Shop, will host the third annual CONVERGE: Contemporary Curators Forum panel series. CONVERGE is a platform for curators and arts professionals across non‐profit institutions to engage in dialogue surrounding the most pressing topics facing contemporary art and its markets. This year’s theme, Ambiguities of Place, will feature public panels, one‐on‐one conversations, and roundtable discussions including Culture + Community: Dynamic New ModelsBeyond the Stretcher: Breaking Down Spatial Limitations in Contemporary Painting, Edgy Art; Who’s Collecting It, Who’s Exhibiting It? andRenovating the Underground. Programming partners include: ArtPrize, Art Loop Open, Artadia, The Art Institute of Chicago The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, New American Paintings, The College Art Association, The International Sculpture Center, The Laumeier Sculpture Park, Independent Curators International, School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Alliance of Artist Communities.
