As an ex trustee of the Museum of Fine Arts, St Petersburg Florida and an active member and supporter I have always thought that the "Mission Statement" should include some reference to being financially self sufficient. I also run a "for profit" online gallery which has to have positive cash flow to survive. It seems that many Museums ignore their corporate community who can be an excellent source of funding and help to avoid the dependence on annual "begging bowl" appeals.
