A huge thank you to all the writers for their participation in Site Unseen. The reviews provided me with an additional window into the show since I was unable to attend this year's iteration in spite of being the curator (an irony not lost on any of those involved!). My access to the actual event has been through the live video chat the evening of the show, videos and photos created in conjunction with it and anecdotal reports from participants and friends. I am very grateful to have this additional and very thoughtful layer to add to my ability to experience the work.

I was moved that Erik was willing to share his own experience regarding his sister and show us what he saw through that very personal lens. The varied perspectives of the writers was illuminating as well.

Hey hey, easy easy.

If we let the work speak for itself we'd just have photographers take pictures.

I shudder to think what I'd find if I parsed 90% of my sentences :)

whatever happened to letting the work speak for itself and damning the critics? while i think martha's crit misses the mark slightly--had i spent more time on the piece in my essay i would have had different quibbles--writing something like, "Even in its absence, death is always present/imminent and yet many of us choose not to notice. It is packaged in such a way that we miss it." really doesn't serve the work. at all. parse that sentence a bit. what is left? nothing.
