Chicago Apartment Galleries: Maps, Photos and Reviews
This made “Best of Chicago Art Magazine” because 1) Concertina is resurrecting itself in a new form (use search bar), and 2) because the coast is clear and I think we can talk about apartment galleries again, and 3) because the Red Eye article was pretty good, along with our “Best of List” – so it’s a best of, of a best of”
Did you read the article about apartment galleries in the Red Eye? If that’s why you’re here, welcome to our site.
But you must know that since the article was written, apartment galleries have been out-grassrooted by the new trend of Car Galleries, which is people showing art out of their vehicle. We’ll be doing a post about red pickup gallery (Guzzlin) next week. But anyway, for you old-school apartment gallery people, learn where all 23 apartment galleries are on our map:
Here are some links to reviews we’ve done of the ones listed in the 5 Gallery Sidebar.

Note About the Red Eye Article: One final parenthetical got cut from the article due to space. Originally it read:
… Born and Burke picked five galleries that they thought showcased the variety of environments apartment galleries can provide, and what motivates the owners to sacrifice so much of their personal living space. (The search for ethnic diversity, however, was less successful. Both Neleh Fine Art and Upstairs Gallery, both respected African-American-owned apartment galleries, have closed.)
So I wanted to just throw that back in since we’ve got all the space in the world here. We’re all ears if we missed something or something new has opened since the article was written.
