Wright Auction’s Highlights for the Mass Modern Sale

I was fortunate enough to speak with Michael Jefferson, senior specialist with Wright Auction on the day before the Mass Modern sale. He was kind enough to share with us his hand-picked list of the top five lots lots to watch for tomorrow’s sale. His approach is scholarly and his selections display an expert eye for the history of design.

The J. J. M. Hoogervorst counterbalance lamp, together with lot 316, are tremendously versatile and stylish lamps that could find pride of place in any room and give all the look of Serge Mouille or Gino Sarfatti at 10% of the cost.

Florence Knoll sofa (model 32) – This is an early and rare sofa by Knoll that has been perfectly reupholstered and is ready to be lived with. The simplicity of material and form of this sofa is wonderful.

Below is a pair of Kaare Klint Barcelona chairs. There is original leather on this pair of classic Danish chairs, and although they have had a hard life indicated by the patina, there are no tears and they display all the proper labels by the cabinetmaker that made them.

The Alvaro Siza candelabra is a very rare design by the contemporary Portugese architect that is rarely seen in the marketplace. It is on display with all of the candles and has the appearance of small scale piece of architecture.
