Concertina to Close (Up and Out)

Katherine Pill and Francesca Wilmott, the masterminds behind Concertina, one of the  area’s strongest apartment galleries, will be closing. Both curators are graduating and moving out-of-state (Kansas City and St. Louis) for museum curatorial jobs. Co-founder (and former CAMag writer) Corinna Kirsch will be moving back to Chicago, so they are hoping to continue a Concertina collaboration in some capacity.

An update will be announced in a few weeks.

This is obviously not great news for the scene, as talent goes “moves up and out” of Chicago. It does, however, illustrate that the hard and financially thankless work of an apartment gallery does give the curators great experience that pays off in other ways.

Final Exhibit:

Saturday, May 15 from 7-10pm
Live Forever, a group show that closes nine months of exhibition programming. As Concertina Gallery in its current manifestation has come to an end, we bring together six artists who each take unique approaches to the practice of memorialization.
