1. Beyond Boundaries – Fine Arts Building, 410 S. Michigan Ave.
Opening reception December 4th, 6PM – 9PM
This exhibition features a Mother and daughter who exhibit their varied approach towards self-expression. Kathleen’s paintings are inspired by visual observation and Lindsey’s assemblage/collage work develops through introspection.
2. Wonders of Winter 2009 – Judy A Saslow Gallery, 300 W. Superior St.
Opening reception December 4th, 5PM – 9PM
Work by artists affiliated with El Valor, Esperanza, The Nathan and Kiyoko Lerner Foundation, and Project Onward, this exhibit features work created by adults with disabilities.
3. The Hashbrown – Spudnik Press, 1821 W. Hubbard St.
Opening reception December 4th, 8PM – 12AM
Help Spudnik Press celebrate their first year! This event has live music and a potluck of resident printers’ hors d’oeuvres. Every guest takes home a piece of handmade art. $20, $15 in advance.
4. Jean Marcellin: New Works – Sapere Art/Intuitive Works, 1579 North Milwaukee Ave.
Opening reception December 4th, 6PM – 10PM
Sapere Art recognizes it’s newist artist Jean Marcellin. This exhibition also features new works by Gary W. Marr, Eulalio Fabie de Silva and others in our fabulous team of artists!
5. Flat Iron Artists Association Holiday smART Show – Gallery 203, 1579 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Opening reception December 5th, 10AM – 10PM
Gallery 203 is also a participant in this building-wide open studio event.
6. Long Hand – Johalla Projects, 1561 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Opening reception December 5th, 6PM – 9PM
This is a group show of sculpture, photography, and fiber “involving meticulous process and hard labor.
7. Silent Auction – The Opportunity Shop, 1613 E. 55th St.
Opening reception December 5th, 6PM – 10PM
This event is a silent auction to raise money for the Opportunity Shop/Home Gallery/Larch projects, for which art donations are greatly appreciated.The OpShop was conceived as an ephemeral, experimental space dedicated to free flowing ideas and imagination of how a temporary arts forum can exist in a community context. Come support this new exhibition space.
8. 5th Annual Celebrate the Arts Card Art Competition – Beverly Art Center, 2407 W. 111th St.
Opening reception December 6th, 1PM-3PM
Five winners of this competition will be selected to have their original images printed on note cards that are available for purchase at the BAC front desk for $5 a pack.
9. Tremendous Ferntuity: four-channel sound installation by Jeff Kowalkowski – Experimental Sound Studio, 5925 N. Ravenswood Ave.
Opening reception December 6th, 9AM-5PM
This exhibition combines electronically processed voice and instrument recordings into a calmly ambiguous, peaceful environment within the Fern Room, intended as a meditation on good luck in life.
10. Doug Stapleton: Recent Collages – Las Manos Gallery, 5220 N. Clark St.
Opening reception December 6th, 12PM – 2:30PM
As part of his exhibition, Doug Stapleton will be available to chat about his work.
